Prior to filing bankruptcy, the state requires all petitioners to complete two credit counseling courses. Bankruptcy can often be a fresh start for many. The courses are intended to help teach about management of your finances moving forward. For added convenience, they can be completed over the phone or online and generally take up to an hour.
The first course must be taken before the petition can even be filed. The second course is taken after the petition is filed as a case number is required. Married petitioners are permitted to take the course together.
Upon completion of the course, the certificate is emailed automatically to our office. The classes we recommend is at Summit Financial Education.
